[STARCAST] EXO 'Growl in middle summer night' 1mm off camera angle



EXO, the undisputed idol star of these days, celebrated 500th day since their debut. It feels like they debuted yesterday, but this year already marks the second year since their debut in April 2012 on MAMA. During the period, EXO has rapidly grown up as a Korean Wave idol. Overseas music markets of China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan are showing great interest to the boy band.

What drove EXO was their fans for the past 500 days. Fans waited for EXO for ten months since the ‘MAMA’ promotion. As a token of appreciation, EXO prepared an event to interact with fans by hosting 'EXO STARCAST ON AIR Growl in the Middle of Summer Night' aired at 8:00 pm on August 21 in collaboration with the portal site 'Naver'.

The first live show hosted by EXO ignited passionate responses from fans. The Naver building in Bundang, Gyeonggi Province, saw the largest number of people in history. The area was crowded with about 200 fans who were given a chance to attend the live broadcast.

"We cannot wait to see EXO"

"XOXO, together!"

There is a flood of girls. At that moment, what were you EXO members doing? They were busy with a rehearsal. They thoroughly checked a movement line ahead of the live show. They were busy preparing for the live show while rehearsing with the host Shin-dong from 'SuperJunior'. We bet that the rehearsal was more fun than the live show.

Shall we take a glimpse at the pictures from the rehearsal?

First rehearsal mission ▶ Take a picture of yourself for fans. EXO members started to take a picture of themselves with a smartphone. All of them were engrossed in taking a picture in a nice photo angle. However, Chan-yeol the rapper took the picture of Shin-dong next to him, drawing laughter from the other members.

The fun only found in a rehearsal ▶ The best-friend line among EXO members. We found that Baek-hyun and Chen were best friends. We spotted them holding hands during the rehearsal. Lu Han and Xiumin were best friends. Lu Han massaged Xiumin’s neck. D.O. and Kai sweetly took a picture of themselves together.

Before the live show ▶ A break time was given. EXO members looked less nervous. The ‘healing’ character Lay opened his mouth big. Kris and Chen stretched themselves. They tried to relieve the fatigue from tight schedules. However, they still wore a smile on their face out of expectatin to meet their fans.

Baek-hyun infused energy into the atmosphere of the live show. Baek-hyun mimicked the sound of a motorbike passing by, which is his only entertaining skill. The reaction of the other members was impressive. They moved their head left and right to the motorbike sound that Baek-hyun made.

Is it because he pulled off the imitation? Baek-hyun seemed to be unable to contain his overflowing talent. He even did a slapstick with Chan-yeol. Baek-hyun shook his body to the beat with Chan-yeol. They were cute as the ‘Beagle Line’ of EXO. The other members could not stop laughing at the slapstick of Baek-hyun and Chan-yeol

The live show was finished with the second version of the music video of 'Growl'. Did you see the faces of EXO when the music video was playing? All of them were into the music video. They watched it with serious eyes probably because they saw the lip-sync version for the first time.

After the live show, EXO’s sweet fan service began. They took a picture with quiz winners with an instant camera. The poses widely varied. Su-ho and D.O. thumbed up. Kai, Tao, Chan-yeol, and Baek-hyun showed the 'V' finger sign. The cheers from girls got louder out of jealousy.

Finally, EXO did not forget to express their gratitude to fans. After the show, EXO shouted the slogan, "WE ARE ONE,” and bowed to about 200 fans in a 90 degree angle. Even after they said goodbye, they waved their hands out of sadness to part away with fans.



The first one is Su-ho, the leader of 'EXO-K'.

▶ Su-ho "I have the aura of a host"

Su-ho was picked as the host of the live show. Baek-hyun and Chan-yeol strongly recommended him. The 'Junmen’ (real name Kim Jun-myun+amen) image is over. His pleasant hosting skills were impressive. He cleverly responded to Shin-dong’s humorous comments. The smooth hosting was recognized by the other members.

▶ Kai…"Today, I am a cutie"

Kai set aside his charisma on stage for a while. He became a ‘cutie’ that day. Kai presented a cute ‘LOVE’ performance singing 'XOXO'. He drew 'LOVE' with his fingers. When he drew 'V' in the air, he stretched his hand to elicit responses from fans.

▶ Chan-yeol "The reaction king"

Chan-yeol was in charge of ‘reaction’ in EXO. He clapped his hands hard when the other members threw humorous comments. When they showed their entertaining skills, he stood up to respond to them. He was good at speaking what he prepared. When Shin-dong asked him to explain the album 'Growl', he clearly talked about its music video versions and genres.

▶ Se-hun "The youngest on top"

The rule of ‘the youngest on top’ was applied to 'EXO' as well. Se-hun (20) is the youngest one. He led Su-ho(23) from the opening of the show. He cheered Su-ho up by saying, "Let’s do well today~.” He had a hearty laughter with one hand grabbing his belt, which demonstrated the existence of the rule of ‘the youngest on top’ in EXO.

▶ Baek-hyun "In charge of monitoring of EXO-M”

Baek-hyun was in charge of monitoring of 'EXO-M'. When 'EXO-M' passionately sang ‘Lucky', his eyes were riveted to the monitor. When 'EXO-M' members blocked his sight, he turned his head. He looked pleased to see 'EXO-M' members sing.

▶ D.O. “I love our album"

D.O. seemed to have a deep affection for ‘Growl’. He did not let go of the album from his hands during the talk on their album. He smiled with satisfaction at every picture of EXO members. He read the ‘thanks to’ notes from the members.

▶ Xiumin "Engrossed in chatting on LINE with fans"

Xiumin was engrossed in LINE chatting with fans. His eyes were glued to the smartphone. He read postings by fans with a gratified smile. He was indeed ‘Muggle Killer'. His thorough fan management even during the live broadcast was impressive.

▶ Kris "My charisma is alive"

He was ‘TTuijjang’ indeed. He oozed charisma. A style is his everything. Kris never let down his guard. When he touched his chin, or turned his head, he showed an eye-catching face. He chicly smiled at the humorous comments of the other members. He was a ‘cold’ handsome guy alive.

▶ Lu Han…"Twist of a deer"

Lu Han is in charge of a flower beauty. He has a gentle visual like a deer. Lu Han, however, tried a face of a beast this time. When asked to a ‘growling’ pose, he bit his lips. He ‘growled’ with his fingers bent like a wolf. The twist from the deer sparked great cheers from fans.

▶ Chen “I will take the 500th day cake~"

Chen was ambitious. When the 500th day cake appeared, he took the cake immediately. He looked happy with the cake in his hands. Taking the cake first, he could secure the center position. He succeeded to take a picture proudly standing with the cake in his hands.

▶ Lay…"Smartphone is hard to use"

While all members were into the LINE chatting, there was the only member who was having a hard time. He was a Chinese member Lay. Lay looked unfamiliar with a smartphone. He could not joint the chatting until Xiumin taught him how to use it.

▶ Tao…"Kung Fu Tao"

Tao’s nickname is 'Kung Fu Tao', which means that he does Kung Fu with dark-circled eyes. 'Kung Fu Tao' was still in love with martial arts. Tao showed up with martial art demonstration. He pleased fans by showing light turns as part of martial art moves.
