Starting where it all began, Mnet’s EXO 90:2014 will be greeting H.O.T’s Kangta as its first guest.

In a teaser released on August 12, the EXO members interacted with Kangta, who was invited as their first guest, who was active as a first generation Kpop group member. The teaser showed the members in awe of the old memorabilia that were created during H.O.T times and also revealed that the EXO members will recreate a music video of one of H.O.T’s songs in their own style.

EXO 90:2014 will begin August 15.

K-pop idol group EXO will revive the K-pop from the 1990s in an upcoming TV show.

The 11-member group will shed new light on first-generation K-pop by reinterpreting once-trendy tunes in a more contemporary perspective on Mnet’s entertainment program “EXO 902014.”

The EXO members, who were all born in the early 1990s, will look into the nostalgic music and trigger vivid recollections for those in their 30s and 40s who grew up with first-generation idols such as H.O.T, g.o.d and Seo Taiji.

“I wanted to bring back past memories and help the different generations better communicate through music,” the program producer Jung Yoo-jin said at a press conference on Monday.

In the show, EXO will partner up with a slew of popular artists and remake their songs and music videos, aiming to narrow the generational gap.

“I have been interested in the music of senior singers. I think that being part of this program will be a crucial opportunity for us to learn music,” EXO leader Suho told the reporters.

For the young Chinese members, songs of the senior singers can be quite new. Asked whether they felt unfamiliar with it, Tao confessed that he didn’t know much about it.

“I don‘t know about the Korean music from the ’90s. ... But I listened to it while shooting the program and thought it was good. I am learning now. ... I am sorry (that I don’t know much...),” Tao added, drawing laughs from the reporters and fellow members.

The show host Jun Hyun-moo said that he discovered enthusiastic sides of EXO while shooting the program.

“EXO members must have some songs they don’t know from the ’90s. But they showed genuine interests and great passion in the music and tried to learn from it,” Jun said, labeling EXO as a “hard-working band.”

The memory-stirring entertainment show is scheduled to air at 10 p.m. every Friday on Mnet from Aug. 15.

Jun Hyun Moo, who is also on the program, shared, "Kai is a big fan of Shinhwa."

“During the Shinhwa episode, Kai got really into it,” said Jun Hyun Moo. “He started doing a lot of things that weren’t even in the sсript, and I realize he was really interested in it. He even started dancing with the Shinhwa members.”

About the EXO members, Jun Hyun Moo said, “I was proud and found the members so adorable, worrying about things they needed to learn from their seniors and what to say on the program. Se Hun was especially nervous and was frozen a lot. He was like a statue.”

EXO 90:2014 is a new program where EXO meets with first generation Kpop groups and later recreate old music videos into a 2014 version. It begins August 15.

Luhan confidently stated, "I can sing almost all of H.O.T′s songs.

"Because I had so much interest in my seniors from the 90s, I know a lot of other teams too. While we were filming, I think I knew all of the songs we listened to."

Another EXO-M member, Lay, said, "I don′t think that there are boundaries to a good song, whether they are Korean or Chinese. We will do our best to redefine the hit songs of the 90s in EXO′s own way."

EXO will connect the beginning of Kpop from the 90s with the globalization of Kpop in 2014 through this program. The EXO members will spotlight the hit songs of their seniors and the Kpop culture of the past through EXO 90:2014.

The program begins August 15.

Lay shared, “I feel good, excited and nervous to be singing in front of the respected sunbaenims. The sunbaenim that I especially like is BoA sunbaenim.”

EXO 90:2014 is a variety program featuring EXO reconnecting 90’s K-pop and culture to that of 2014, spotlighting the popular Korean songs and the culture of the 90’s along with the top 90′s K-pop singers who have kept their spots until today.

The show is set to air on August 15.
