“EXO’s 1st full album sells over 1 million copies… first million-seller since 2001”
EXO ranked in at 1st on America’s Billboard chart ‘20 Best K-pop Songs of 2013’, revealed on the 24th.
Group EXO recently earned the title of ‘million seller artists’, thanks to their first full album selling over one million copies.
On the 27th, SM Entertainment revealed, ‘As of today, EXO’s first full album ‘XOXO’ has sold 471,570 copies and the repackaged album sold 536,007 copies, recording a total of 1,007,577 albums album sales’.
EXO is the first artist in the last 12 years to sell over a million album copies, after the release of Kim Gunmo’s 7th album and G.O.D.’s 4th album, back in 2001.
According to SM Entertainment, including this month’s album sales for for EXO’s winter album, ‘Miracles in December’ (430,000 copies sold, thus far), the total number of albums recorded as sold this year is over 1,440,000.
SM officials said that ‘there is a deeper meaning to this accomplishment, because not only did EXO became a million seller, but they also raised the level of expectations for the future of Asia’s music markets.’
EXO said, ‘thank you to all of those who supported us and made this million seller record possible’, and, ‘we think the year 2013 was one in which we received much love from many people, and as a result of that love and attention, we were able to accomplish great performance.’
In addition, EXO’s ‘Growl’ was given 1st place on America’s Billboard ‘20 Best K-pop Songs of 2013’.
EXO is planning to attend the end of year award ceremonies held by KBS, on the 27th, SBS, on the 29th, and MBC, on the 31st, along with other end of year promotions.
