“EXO airs their ‘Eating Show’ during ‘Showtime’ - ‘They are not your typical idols’”
“‘Trend idol’ EXO’s members, Kris (23), Chanyeol (21), Baekhyun (21), Tao (20) and Sehun (19), showed their love for meat in the latest episode of ‘Showtime’ and displayed very positive reactions while trying out pork innards for the very first time, creating their own ‘Muk-Bang’ (먹방 - a term coined for the increasingly popular ‘eating show’ genre.
In cable channel MBC Every1’s December 5th episode of ‘EXO’s Showtime’ , the five members decided to take a stroll in the streets of Hongdae. They visited a restaurant serving grilled innards, and with none of the members have tried them before, they decide to give them a go. They said ‘it’s our first time eating a grilled innards’. ‘We were curious, so we decided to order it’, the members stated with bright and expectant expressions.
The famished members began to complain of their hunger to each other as soon as the meat was laid out on the grill. They voiced out their complaints, asking ‘why won’t it cook faster; don’t you think that the faster it cooks, the faster we’ll get to eat?’, and couldn’t seem to stem the tide of hunger any longer. As soon as the innards were cooked to a perfect golden crisp, the members gobbled them all down within a blink of an eye.
The grilled innards must have not been enough to satisfy the members, because their next menu item was an order of ‘samgyeopsal’, or pork belly. Tao had placed aside a few pieces of cooked pork belly on a separate dish to let them cool, when a waitress suddenly came to pick up the dishes. The look on his face as he desperately tried to save his precious meat pieces brought laughter to viewers.
Kris shared that it was his ‘first time hearing of a grilled innards, and he was surprised that such a taste existed in this world’. Also served that day was a special old school lunch box, which Kris shook meticulously, causing the members to laugh. The members proudly claimed that ‘Kris is now fully Korean and he has now completely adjusted to our dietary preferences’.
EXO’s ‘eating broadcast’ didn’t simply end with the grilled innards and pork belly. After feasting to their hearts’ content, they went on to find a snack shack and ordered spicy rice cakes, stuffed innards and tempura, surprising the staff with their healthy appetites.
In this episode, EXO members all had small breaks, with the members enjoying their free time in groups or by themselves. In the midst of their busy schedule, the idols’ refreshing way of interacting with each other and enjoying their time together brought heartfelt laughter to viewers and had them appreciate each of the members’ individual charms.”
